TEENTECH2 Italy Edition

The Italian edition of TEENTECH2 DAY took place in a small, characteristic village in Calabria, transforming the local community into a vibrant hub for science, innovation, and sustainability.

The event brought together 16 researchers involved in 5 European projects, creating a unique opportunity to connect cutting-edge research with citizens of all ages. The focus of the day was on some of today’s most pressing challenges, including renewable energy and desalination, and how scientific innovation can contribute to a more sustainable future.

One of the highlights of the event was the active participation of children, who engaged directly in hands-on experiments and interactive activities. Through practical demonstrations and scientific games, they had the opportunity to experience science firsthand, stimulating curiosity and inspiring the next generation of innovators and researchers.

As part of the ANDREAH project, the event also benefited from the valuable contribution of researchers from CNR-ITAE: Antonio Vita, Gabriel Marino, and Domenico Maccarrone introduced children and families to the world of hydrogen technologies through engaging demonstrations and discussions. Participants had the opportunity to discover hydrogen-powered model cars, learn about catalytic processes and their role in sustainable energy systems, and explore the challenges associated with hydrogen transport and storage, including the potential use of ammonia as a hydrogen carrier. Their activities provided an accessible and inspiring introduction to one of the most promising areas of clean energy research.

Adults also played an important role in the event. They engaged in discussions with researchers, observed the activities, and exchanged ideas on the challenges and opportunities associated with sustainable technologies. This interaction fostered meaningful dialogue between science and society, demonstrating the importance of making research accessible and relevant to local communities.

Hosting TEENTECH2 in a small village in Calabria carried a special significance. It showed that innovation and scientific engagement are not limited to large cities and research centres. On the contrary, rural and local communities can become places where European research creates impact, inspires young people, and strengthens connections between citizens and science.

The success of the TEENTECH2 Italy edition was made possible thanks to the collaboration and commitment of many partners and supporters.
